|
...I knit in Icelandic...I talk to babies in French...I love colors and Icelandic sheep... Hélène Magnússon is a young designer with an unusual course. Her designs are often inspired by old Icelandic handiwork and tales which she tries to interpret with great respect and develop in refreshingly innovative ways. She started to study law and worked for a time as a lawyer in Paris. In 1995, she made a complete change and moved to Iceland where she later began studying art and design. During that time, she worked as a hired girl in a farm, a cook and a mountain guide. She didn´t completly give up on law though and married an Icelandic lawyer. They have three daughters together. She graduated from the Textile and fashion section of the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2005. Since then, she has been working as a freelance designer and author. Her works has been exhibited numerously both in Iceland and abroad. She has published a few books. Hélène is also the cofounder of Knitting Iceland, a company that works with the Icelandic kintting heritage, teaching, publishing and organising knitting tours in Iceland.
