(Note:
this chatter is not in the book Óðsmál, only
complementary to the book's contents.)
A shallow God
is a superficial fancy, but He can be terribly strong in a sense,
as He is used (by men) as a grip on (other) men (monotheism is
used as theocracy). That kind of a God is worshipped and obeyed.
It thrives on fear and flattery.
Profound
gods are a part of each man's individuality. Obedience and threat
do not belong to profound gods. Promise of some heaven after death
if.... does not either.
Using
a god as a threat, and promise alms and boons for belief and
obedience, is humiliation for man's free spirit. A man who chooses
that illusion is blind, silly, lazy, brain-washed, narrow-minded
or fanatic.
Never
should any man let others choose a god for him. Each man himself,
and he alone, should feel for himself which gods and goddesses he
is going to make most prominent trends and traits in his
lifespan. Actually it can be stated as a fact that only one god
does not suit all men. The concept The Only True God is meant to
subdue man's free spirit.
Some
try to add mystic ("something supernatural") to a
shallow, superficial only god to serve man's need for profound
gods. Watch out: A compulsory god (God) with glued on
characteristics of our private and personal innermost gods or
goddesses is a mended attempt to justify dogmas.
Gods
now-a-days are not profound, -- they are shallow and superficial.
We must admit this to be a factum. And that is what we have to
remedy. Some gods have been used by tyrants and prophets as a
device to threaten to obedience (theocracy). Some religions are
used to get a hold on the mob or masses (theocracy). Their
prophets claim mankind to be (1) "inside-sheep" that
obey, and (2) "stray sheep", that have to be gotten
inside as they are condemned to darkness if they do not obey "the
rules". If they resist and can not be converted, they must be
prayed for, killed and their possessions confiscated.
This
use (abuse, misuse) of religions as theocracy has spoiled the word
GOD. Some men have never heard of the gods within us. Some men
do not understand that the gods are a part of nature as Natural
Laws. The gods are our allies, not dictators. Just the creative
powers in nature and within ourselves. "Some guys have all
the luck" because they find the flow of these positive
powers. Life goes our way if we live in accordance with our own
true gods.
We
should stay away from shallow gods that are used as device of
dominance-urge. They are most stern, and they love and hate, and
they thrive on double standard ethics as, love some hate others.
They revenge the smallest deviation from the orthodox (right
dogmas), according to the man that invents and/or rules the god at
that certain time.
Ethics
are a part of most religions. Ethic is a worldly phenomenon. In
heathenry we find beautiful ethical advice. Each individual is
responsible, and his behavior is in accordance with evolution and
promotes cosmic evolution.
Moses
wrote: do not kill (his God said so), and Moses killed his men by
the tenths of thousands (his God told him to). This is "using"
the god-concept to commit crimes in order to rule other men. This
is not sound ethics.
There
do exist "made up" religions that "use"
(borrow, steal) from all kinds of sources: They borrow mysticism,
contemporary "hits" (psychology, social aid). They
borrow and misuse concepts from many thousands of years old
religions. These "founded" religions usually have the
only true god, doomsday, hell, reward after death for obedience,
and an only true prophet. They are used in many versions under the
name: "charity, love, brotherhood", to gather in sheep.
Foreseeing hell and death and darkness for others. They tend to
have keen missionaries. Some still use killing, other deal with
charity money and goods. Some get confiscated possessions,
children and wives of killed men as a booty.
Profound
gods are to be found inside. They are a part of us. Not "out
there" or "up there" as unreachable by all men. We
can consider the profound gods as constructive and creative
powers, as Natural Laws, as layers of man's psyche, our positive
ambitions in life, but they are a part of us, _not_
thoughts on the level of ideology and contemplation, but dwell in
the true essence of our very existence.
Invented
and imported southern gods that thrive on fear and promises, and
that demand to be worshipped and obeyed, have coloured the ancient
heathen concepts to the worse. Therefore I shall explain our lost
profound gods: We heathens do not worship gods. We find them as
a part of our existence within ourselves and all around in
nature. We do not obey gods, but we are true to our chosen
purpose in life - each individual's dharma. We change it as we get
wiser. We should not be stubborn as not to revise old oaths with
common sense and changed views and circumstances. We choose our
life ourselves, each man for himself. Not once for all, but create
it every minute. Gods do not forgive or revenge. Each man takes
the responsibility of his acts and deeds. Gods do not deem nor
do they judge, not do they claim obedience to commandments
(-commandments are man-made-), not do they threaten, and they can
not be used (misused) to found a theocracy. Real gods are a part
of us, - a part of each one of us as individuals. We are divine
beings (ginnungagap inside us), and the gods are our worldly
higher layers, easily reached by any man that has a human nervous
system.
I
shall take examples of profound gods: Should we choose Þór
(Thor, the Norse god loved by laboring men and farmers and
vigorous, energetic men) we imply might and main inside every man.
This gives us access to the endless power and endurance that is to
be found in abundance within us.
Should
we choose Freyja (the norse goddess of love, goddess of universal
love) we focus on an all-pervading, unselfish, attentive
love. Falling in love is not necessarily that kind of unselfish
love, as falling in love might be to fulfill selfish feelings.
Falling in love can have another side: jealousy and broken hearts.
Universal love knows no duality of opposites. It knows pure love
only.
Should
we like to have Óðinn (Odinn) as our lucky star
(Mercur, Buddh) we have chosen the development of the free human
spirit. -- _Free_ human spirit, as that is a prerequisite
for development. A man that is stuck in dogmas and rules is not
free. Dogmas spoil. Rules, other that you yourself make for
yourself and for yourself alone, are of no use - and are actually
dangerous. You can talk about your rules to your friends, but
never thrust them upon others. Each individual's motto should be:
Lead I myself. Give I good advice, listen I to advice, but
may I never dominate another person, and may I never lap up ideas
without discrimination. I must point out in this context that
bringing up a child is teaching it to be a responsible individual.
It is not like dressing a puppy. It is not teaching obedience, nor
is it threatening. Parent-child relationship is founded on love
and attentive care. Do not use the I win, you loose method.
Consideration comes naturally. Be your children's' friend from the
moment of conception(!). Help them find their individual, unique
purpose in life and ambitions. What we are teaching is that any
circumstances can be beneficial. (Everything is a part of our
evolution.) Errors are to be learnt from, victories are to make
everyone benefit from them (unselfishly) - and they give courage
and self-confidence. Sound self-esteem is the aim. What does
Óðinn (Odin) and free human spirit mean in
heathenry? It means: Each individual's freedom gives access to our
innermost essence: Truth Itself. What does freedom mean?
Freedom for every individual.
Should
we like to meditate on Týr (Tyr), we should know his deeds
(for that read Óðsmál (Odsmal) Chatter (Chapter)
24), and we should understand what being valiant means. We should
know what righteousness means. We should see all wrong-doing
towards others and all injustice, where-ever we come across it, to
be our personal enemy. This is what Hávamál
(Havamal), the sacred texts of the Edda of the North, teach as the
ethical part of heathenry.
Try
to come in contact with the essence of gods by reflecting on the
names of the days. To begin with on the level of thoughts, i.e.
intellectually, gradually leaving out all thoughts and feel,
deeper and deeper. Each day when you take the shower, or when you
look out of the window and yawn and stretch happily, remember for
a while the name of the day and find inside you the god or goddess
whose name it bears.
Sunday
is the day of goddess Sun the life-giver. Find all her names and
reflect on their meaning. Monday is the day of Moon, the
soothing and mystic. Tuesday is the day of Týr (Tyr) the
concept of righteousness - being truly valiant for the sake of
others. Wednesday is the day of Óðinn (Odinn) the
free human spirit. Try to get rid of binding ideas that have been
put in your head, the brainwashing and indoctrination. Find the
freedom of the human spirit inside you, freedom from nonsense and
grips on you meant for dominance of you (a grip perhaps under a
false name of liberation!!!). Thursday is the day of Þór
(Thor) the might and main, all power, within us. We have access to
it abundantly. Friday is the day of Freyja, the all-pervasive
universal love. Not selfish love, but the true benevolence to all
things, animate and inanimate, and love of mankind and its strive
-- the life-game by the trial-error-method -- to find
Reality. Saturday is the day of tricky Loki. He is double
natured, you know. Try to be on the safe side of happenings, i.e.
the right and honest side.
Shallow,
dominating gods are put somewhere "out there" or "up
there", talked to on the level of thoughts, thrive on
ideology and contemplation and discussion and dispute between men,
and the making of standardized dogma. This kind of a god can not
be contacted without a contact-person, and that kind of a god
should not be made angry (mad) by not obeying the rules that the
contact-person (or the prophet) has made, however merciful and
forgiving that whimsical god is said to be occasionally on his (or
the prophet's) conditions. Some people seem to like this stuff,
others dare not oppose, some are brain-washed through
indoctrination, others have never heard of anything else and have
only heard of monotheism and atheism as the only options. Some
refrain from all kinds of god-talk and find it terribly silly and
illusive.
Some
religions, or sects of a religion, tend to take in whatever is
contemporary and in fashion in times and places "to meet the
needs of the people". They do not loose their aim: to unite
all men under their flag. Nota bene: This kind of versatility
is _not_ the same as every single individuals revision of
his state of consciousness and self-adaption to each day's
needs. Some religions (or sects) try very hard to be popular.
Even pop music, that is sometimes condemned as of a devil, is
sometimes used to get in teenagers. Such religions act like clowns
to get attention, or they threaten hells or they promise heavens
for the obedient. Be very careful if you are offered to be
liberated by these institutions. Most of this stuff is worldly
only. It is not divinity. You might cling to a worldly
patent-solution. You might stop searching and thus loose one
little lifetime on your path towards divine perfection. Know
that your Divinity is far inner than these worldly institutions
and worldly thoughts and worldly words, however divine they are
claimed to be, and however expensive and rich they are.
Asatruar-men
have lost the depth of their gods. Depth of gods is a delicate
thing and can easily get lost. We must have access to advice from
our mother and father. But where are the parents that could tell
us? Parents that tried to tell their bairns (children) about the
beauty of gods inside us were killed - burned alive.
Everything
that was sacred to heathen men was - during the dark middle ages
(by the Christian church) - made evil and said to be of a
so-called devil, in order to make people refrain from it, and in
order to suffocate it. Gods inside were banned as being false. To
find gods within was, by the church, called: contemplating one's
navel, very funny.
Nature
worship was banned as being hieracy. The nature-and-man
relationship, or feeling, is not esteemed now-a-days in the way it
should. Its reputation was spoiled. It is worthy of more
understanding again. (man
and nature)

Heathen
gods used to be as profound as the human psyche and even deeper as
they originate from the very core of all life as does our soul.
This very core is the all-pervasive ginnungagap (norse mythology),
the Unified Field (modern science), Brahman (The Vedas (and
Hinduism)), Buddha's gain nirvana. The gods abide in Ásgarður
(Asgardur). Óðsmál (Odsmal) explains this to
you.
The
profound gods shall be rediscovered. It is our task to do so.
A
handy invention of oppression was that devil or satan, invented in
some southern region and imported from there to Europe. It is,
like everything else in the monotheistic religions, made up from
age old concepts of age old mythology. Only it was changed to suit
the new purpose: dominance!! That devil does not exist. He is
made from an ancient concept of good and bad, but was changed to
that devilish thing to exploit man's fear. He (it) is used as if
you threaten a little child saying: -There is an ugly, evil man
under your bed! If you do not obey and fall asleep at once he will
burn you to death - or eat you! - or whatever. He who says it (he
who threatens) knows that it is only a threat, but the innocent
kid does not know. It is scared, and the only option it sees is to
obey the liar. The threatener (a prophet) usually is the "good
guy" who "loves" the obedient believer even more
than himself(!!! ). (He most likely claims not to love
himself at all. He even claims to do all for others only. Claims
to have no lust for power, being only a tool of a powerful god
that he "uses" as a threat.)
Shallow
gods are normally introduced on a silver plate, and if someone
does not accept Them, the sword, the fire stake, something called
hell or devil, is used on him as a next step and said to be after
his death even worse.
In heathenry fire is Ullur, the
purifying divinity, found by performing a valkyrja, a
transcendence, fórn of the individual for a while to be
ginnungagap only.
To
be heathen is not just to state so - not to proclaim: -I am
heathen! It need not be stated as it is a personal and private
matter. Those who proclaim so are not necessarily sincere. There
is no apparatus to belong to. No institution. That is the weakness
of paganism as a religion, but its strength as true spirituality.
Heathenry,
or paganism, is to be found all over, but no-where to be pinned
down. Heathen men realize their responsibility as
individuals. Concern for the whole of humanity, all
righteousness (god Týr (Tyr)), the concern towards all
life, love towards Mother Earth, and man's evolution, is what
unites pagans all over the world. The new age is showing it
now. All this is ancient and has belonged to the best of men
for thousands and thousands of years.
Newer
religions (some 2000 or 3000 years old religions) have adopted all
kinds of things from ancient mythology into their pompy
proclamations. It is not to expose the beauty of man's free will
and free spirit. No. Quite the contrary: the purpose is to serve
the dominance-lust, using double-sided ethics and exploiting
narrow-minded people's fear to subdue and to claim obedience.
Actually
every single bit of what is to be found in the monotheistic
religions can be traced back to ancient myths and such older
sources. Some of it has been drastically misinterpreted --
deliberately given a different meaning !!! Old myths appeal
to people. Therefore they are re-used. They are torn out of
context and applied in the revealed religion to serve the purpose
of getting obedience for the leader.
People
perhaps do not realize that heathenry is many, many thousands of
years old. Much, much older than the Anno Domini (that never was
and actually is known to be both invented and miscalculated). It
is know to be clever strategy only. But we do know that later
invented religions such as Christianity from Rome "borrowed"
a lot from heathenry (as well as from many other sources) in its
mission to suffocate and destroy heathenry. For example: yule
(Christmas; solstice holiday) and Easter (the goddess of spring)
are heathen feasts. (see: man
and nature)
and Skirnismal) We
have a hard time to find out which influenced which during these
dark middle ages when the pompy popes were the Roman Empire and
ruled Europe. All seems to have gotten mixed up under diffused
headings. The purpose of the church was, and still is, to destroy
our ancient culture in order to be able to rule by theocracy. To
sneak into the prevailing culture and adopt ideas was used along
with burning and killing. They say: OH! It is all to be found in
Christianity. But they do not know where it comes from.
We
know about yule and Easter, and we assume that the beautiful
rúnatal (runatal) of ancient Hávamál
(Havamal) - (read Chapter 29 in Óðsmál (Odsmal)
to understand) - and the profound Truth of Óðinn
(Odinn) on vingameiður (vingameidur; true yoga) is the model
of the misleading concept of a savior hanging on a tree-cross to
carry away sins. Terribly abused and drastically misleading - on
purpose.
Ethics
and moral in pure and unpolluted heathenry is sound: Fight
unrighteousness were-ever you come across it. Do not be aggressive
or possessive. Even we find the advice: you should not overeat;
and you should not take more from nature than you need. Even: Only
a silly man talks more than he thinks. (!!) Books have been
written on the double-sided ethics of the monotheistic religions:
Holy purpose, victory at any cost, holy means to reach the holy
purpose, holy-what-ever (no matter how sinful) that brings
victory. Holy murders to secure power and expansion. Religious
wars were and still are monotheistic hobbies. Look at the
conflicts in the world in the name of theocracy. Take Ireland or
Jerusalem or whatever and see for yourself.
There
are prominent differences of fundamental concepts between
monotheistic religions (on one hand) and paganism (on the other
hand) that will never be agreed on nor a compromise made on. In
Europe we have had that conflict between heathenry and
Christianity since the day that Christianity was invented. (First
The Roman Empire fought it, then the Roman Empire used it (Jesus
the new Cesar)). The core and essence of theocracies (on one
hand) and heatheny and like cults (on the other) is as black and
white, as out and in, as 180 degree shift of understanding. The
heathen way of living is on the very sound basis of individuality,
responsibility, each man's free will, and gods within, being
ginnungagap. These are heathenry's cornerstones.
Do
you know that a wrong history has been written in order to justify
crimes? A wide-spread propaganda goes: Pagans are savage and
aggressive, Christians are good and peaceful. Actually it is the
other way round, as the true history so horribly states. Another
propaganda goes: the ancient cultures are primitive and out-dated,
the new, revealed religions are leading humanity the right way.
This is a lie. The ancient religions are profound and based on
Reality and Truth, but the monotheistic religions are a drastic
step backwards in the history of mankind.
Heathenry
is non-aggressive by nature (ahimsa), but a heathen man is not
passive when he comes across injustice.
Christians should
go back to heathenry, our ancestors' profond wisdom. Many
christians are already culturing in themselves the profundity of
heathenry, being one with nature, one of a whole, finding gods and
goddesses within.
The profound beauty of ásatrú
(asatru) shall be rediscovered in spite of deliberate lies.
The
very word GOD* is most confusing, as some use it in several
contexts. We here in the North are lucky that ginnungagap, the
all-pervasive void that was before this our beautiful world came
into being, is an IT, not a he or a she. This gives it a clear
distinction from the gods and goddesses. All these gods and
goddesses, the monotheistic ones too, are worldly. It, the
ginnungagap, is not. It does not take part in the on-goings in the
world - even though It pertains the universe. It just is. Read
Óðsmál (Odsmal) to understand
ginnungagap. Óðsmál (Odsmal) explains the
pure theosophy of profound polytheism.
*)The word guð
(gud) used to be neutre plural (they, gods and goddesses), but
under patriarchy it became maskuline singular (he or He).
Óðsmál
(Odsmal) deals a bit with ethnology, and inspires scholars to do
more research in that field. It has all to do with profound gods
and shallow gods in fact. Therefore it is suggested that Gerður
(Gerdur) of Skírnismál (Skirnismal) who is - at
yule-tide - admired as a partner to the profound divinity of love
(Freyr) was deliberately changed (by the Christian church in
Europe) into a horror figure, or a threat, called Grýla
(Gryla). This Christian Grýla (Gryla) eats naughty kids
(according to the church's and Christian parent's needs), whereas
heathen Gerður (Gerdur) symbolizes the promise of vegetation
to come next spring, food for animals and bairns (children) and
grown-ups. (see: man
and nature and
Skirnismal)
More
research in ethnology and theosophy is needed: The author of
Óðsmál (Odsmal) wants to find out if trolls and
trollesses in mountains in Iceland are perhaps Mother Earth or
Freyja, the great goddesses of the North, in disguise, made evil
by the church in order to get people to refrain from them. Heathen
concepts were banned and said to be of the devil or evil powers.
Heathen concepts were either (1) made evil or (2) adopted in a
Christian context, as concepts can not be burned and killed but
can be misinterpreted. Trollesses or giantesses were (under
Christianity) said to eat humans, said to lure men to their caves
in the mountains. Some humans were spellbound and went to live
with the trollesses in their caves in the mountains. Other men
saved themselves from the trollesses heathen goddesses?) by
calling Jesus Christ and saying prayers to the church's Semitic
Hebrew god.
For
the meaning of the proud female deity Freyja and the importance of
the female power in norse mythology and theosophy, you can read
the kvæði (kvaedi, poem) Þrymskviða
(Thrymskvida) , Þrymskviða(symbolic
language)from Edda. It
reveals the free will of all feminine powers in our northern
cultural inheritance. You should try to look at the Brísingamen
(the gem / jewel of Brisingar) as mankind that Freyja loves and
protects. The theosophical aspect of Þrymskviða
(Thryms-kvida, the poem about the thurs Þrymur (Thrymur)),
is not explained here, but you should try to do that for yourself
when you read it. Try not only to read it as an amusing silly old
myth. Try to see the importance of Þór (Thor) for us
men in Miðgarður (Midgardur, the world of men), and the
danger of negative powers (thurses, eotens) in the world of men if
we are passive and do not do our allotted duty. (Eotens are
explained in Chatter 7 (Chapter 7) in Óðsmál
(Odsmal)). Always keep in mind, when reading norse mythology,
that there does not exist anything called devil. Negative powers
and deterioration are a part of the perpetual cycles of life
(thurses, jötnar (jeotnar, eotens)).
I
repeat: Now-a-days we are told by some men (not the least by
scholars - and of course by missionaries) that heathenry or
paganism is inferior to the imposed religions everywhere on our
planet. This statement is not true. The imposed religions, widely
spread by expensive propaganda, are designed to make a mass or
herd of obedient sheep. They use a shallow god that can be reached
through a media or an institution only.
I
repeat: We should bear in mind, what very few people actually
know, that whatever we find in the imposed "revelation"
religions is all good old myths and ancient concepts, changed to
suit the new purpose: power over people. Everything in The Books
is recycled and reused in the new context. The so-called
revelation is a cover-up for the real purpose: dominance and claim
of obedience. These religions thrive on man's fear to make man
dependent on them. And they claim to be the only help man can get.
They adopt contemporary needs of man (sickness, hunger,
alcoholism, lack of education) to suit the purpose of the whole
enterprise: a grip on people. This is theocracy in the disguise of
philanthropy.
Heathenry,
if understood correctly, meets the needs of each individual as he
himself makes them for himself. He, and he alone, is responsible.
He, and he alone, knows what suits him on his state of
consciousness. Help and advice is given, but no commandments
exist.
Help
on no conditions is called help in the Eddas' sacred texts. The
only reward the helper gets is good thoughts from the one that
receives the help. And that is a precious thing. (Northern
ethics.)
On
commandments and obedience: You can see how much easier it is
to have no responsibility and shout: as Thou wilt. A believer does
not even need a will. Sins will be forgiven if the believer just
says that he repents. No wonder that some people call this a
sleeping pill and drugs for the sheep.
Monotheistic
religions cling to worldly thoughts and are a step backwards in
history of humanity. They are a dark part of the cycle. When we
(mankind) get more mature we shall rediscover our profound gods,
and each man chooses the one fit for his personal evolution. We
shall realize that some worldly institutions have used the
god-concept to promote their egoistic goals.
Heathens
have no rules that tyrants can use on them. That is why dominating
men want to get rid of heathenry and the freedom of the human
spirit (Óðinn (Odin)). Bans, musts, rules, threats
(hells), awards for obedience (heavens), manipulated spiritual
life, are used to uproot freedom of the individual. All this is a
necessity for the power-greedy prophets and belief-users. - And it
is a profitable business too - at the same time as it feeds the
lust for power. Of course, if people want to be obedient
believers, why blame only the clever ones that mock these
credulous men using on them indoctrination and brainwashing? We
should rather point out to the hooked believer that he is stuck in
a worldly trap. Real Truth is within himself. The invention of
a good-and-angry and frightening-and-forgiving god is a smart move
to serve the lust of dominance that some men possess. But if these
men find no credulous men to turn into frightened, obedient
believers, that whimsical god can not be used any more.
This
dominance stuff thrives on fear and it needs enemies that are a
devil and other men (of other sects or other nations). They also
need a god to be responsible for "the law ". Why do
some people always want to get bossed? Is it the easy way out of
responsibility to sell the soul for a fool-proof belief?
Free
will is the greatest possession of man and should not be
suffocated in an institution or a revelation-religion of any kind.
True spirituality does not need an apparatus.
I
repeat: Heathenry is not usable as a tool of dominance, as every
individual is free to choose his god or gods or goddess or
goddesses he feels are most appropriate to his psyche and to his
aims and purpose in life. Only by that way of living is the
evolution for the individual at its best. Only in that way can
each individual probe deeper and deeper into his real essence,
all-responsible for his actions and deeds in life. No two men are
alike anyway. Each one should find his special purpose in life.
Do
not let others choose a god for you. The well-advertised and
terribly expensive god (gods) from the monotheistic religions was
(were) invented by Moses. Moses was brought up in the Farao-style.
The only trouble: He had no nation to rule. He made one. Then he
used theocracy. All "other gods" have to be banned to
operate theocracy. All the men that did not obey Moses, the only
true prophet, were killed because of the anger of that only true
god of his. No heathens were allowed to live.
History tells
us also that sometimes heathens were baptized by force by the
thousands and then killed. The very word god has been severely
abused. I am not surprised that some refrain from it altogether
and prefer atheism.
We
have to get this concept "god" right again. In the
very depth of the soul the pure and profound gods abide. They come
from Ásgarður (Asgardur). And Óðsmál
(Odsmal) tells you where Ásgarður (Asgardur) is: Inside
you, inside me. Not only out there.
During
Neo-Classicism men tried to find gods within themselves. That
attempt to revive the pagan world view failed for that time.
Organized religions (the Christian church, religions used for the
purpose of gaining power over nations) spotted the heathen
tendency that was becoming popular by the Neo-Classical Movement.
The revival of the profound gods was the primary purpose of the
Neo-Classicists. The church put great effort in uprooting that
"New-Age-Movement of those times", Neo-Classicism. Men
that found god or gods within, were mocked, said to be
contemplating their own navel, said to worship pseudo-gods, false
gods in their bellies. Some of the movement's followers did not
think deep enough then, only trying to copy Greek clothes and
visual "Greekness". For some it was just a fashion
statement. Neo-Classicism failed in its noble mission because of
these two reasons (stated above). Platon should be read on a
deeper level than as worldly philosophy.
Óðsmál
(Odsmal) warns of a danger: Believing and worshipping some man
(alive or dead) is not advisable - even is a dangerous thing on
one's path towards perfection - as it misleads and retards the
individual's evolution. Some prophets are worshipped as the god
they use.
Óðsmál
(Odsmal) warns us: The devil is a useful invention. Do
know that the invention "devil" is a strategic tool, a
device to summon credulous mobs against a common enemy, a trick
well known by good generals and bad tyrants.
Unwanted
men and women were said to serve a devil, and their fellow men got
an award (from their beloved and terrible shallow god) for killing
them.
Heathenry
has always been here. Now people are no longer burnt alive for
admitting the beauty of the precious inheritance of our ancestors.
Now it can bloom again in all its diversity. But the real meaning
of gods has to be revived. Each individual has to find the depth
within himself. Each individual has to find his personal gods and
goddesses. Nobody can choose a god for another man.
We
must find our profound gods again. Otherwise heathenry is just
another form of shallow, worldly thinking and intellectual
dispute. That is not what gods should be all about. If we do not
find the profoundness again mankind will wither away.
Try
to find gods within as your divine power, and cultivate your
purposes of life as a great individual, a great, free human
being.
Gunnlöð in Hnitbjörg is within us,
