Info on yule
Skírnismál
the kvæði of Edda, the sacred poems of the North, is the
poem on natural, or Nature's, yule-tide. Jól are,
yule is, a cycle, a "wheel", wheels that carry us
onwards on the path of evolution. Life should flow along with
the wheels, cycles, thus set turning. Any downwards turn is a
need for further creation. Without this perpetual change in the
material world there would be no progress, no renewal, no
creation, no "experiments", but stagnation only.
The
main characters of Skírnismál are: Freyr, Skírnir
and Gerður; The deepest meaning of the poem is: combination
of the worldly, material side of life, here Gerður, and the
divine part of life, our innermost core, here Freyr.
Skírnir
is the rising sun at winter solstice in the North. He signifies
that now the days are growing longer. Birth of the light of
life. Skírnir is a ray of divinity, an avatar, geisli,
that makes the materially-oriented man realise how he shall
wither away if he does not find his innermost divinity, his
real core and essence, his nourishment.
We
might need some notes on symbols and metaphores for the
non-profane minds, and the enlightened man, and the common
blind man:
The
horse is a brilliant horse. It is the great, dynamic force of
life, vital energy. Horse is a vehicle. Takes us to Ásgarður.
The horse indicates the will to reach our divine innermost
core, and the will to help mankind to do so when dark ages and
bad times are prevailing. The horse Sleipnir is our vehicle,
our human nervous system, means to reach the divine,
ourselves, real selves, our innermost core and essence:
ginnungagap.
For
the man that understands the term enlightenment, Skírnismál
should be taken as the dawn of a new cycle in life, the
beginning on the path leading inwards towards the true,
infinite consciousness in man, ginnungagap. And the result,
that for sure will show up, -- will sooner or later be ours --, is
sæla of goddess Sun, bliss, ananda, imbibed into our very
living body. Into every cell. Hamingja.
The
common, blind man takes here his first step to understand pure
and profound heathenry and he should learn about what beauty
awaits him in life when he sees Truth.
Skírnir,
the shining one, the clear one, the illuminated one, the
bright one, is our inner force coming into our life for real, a
divine life force. We might need some knowledge in order to
understand. Giving knowledge is the task performed by Skírnir.
He descends from divinity to put things right so that we shall
remember the purpose of life, which is not the material well-being
only, -- the gold in Gymisgarðar, even if material bounty,
peace and prosperity, is a prerequisite for life. Freyr also
stands for that. We wish, according to the Frey-cult: happy
yule-tide, peace (frith) and prosperity for the whole year (ár,
ársæld).
The
word gísl in Icelandic means a hostage or as gísli a
ray, geisli. Where vanir are sent to æsir as gíslar,
I prefer the meaning rays, avatar, rays of inner most subtle
divinity, the spiritual Sun, the goddess. Vísu vanir
are ved vani. Here Skírnir is the divine ray from the
vanur Freyr to human Gerður. The race of þurses needs
the wisdom that still is veiled for us, or the þurs in us.
The
spiritual Sun (a goddess), was hidden or covered for us, but is
now rediscovered -- by our own effort. Our acceptance.
The
golden apples are means for immortality, they are ambrosia,
amritanam. Iðunn, ever-renewing, always-loving, keeps the
gods and goddesses, the Laws of Nature, the
perpetually-creating powers and evolutionary positive
trends, ever-young. The apples (mead of immortality) are for
our body-cells too. The apples, that are actually gotten from
the performing of the valkyrja "Óðinn given to
Óðinn" (Hávamál), are means for man
to accomplish, -- or do lead man to --, immortality, pace by
pace. This is his evolution. Purpose of his very lives, each
ævi, life-spans.
Snowy
mountains and the flame vafurlogi are our creation as
obstacles between our world of thoughts and pure consciousness
within, Actually there is no obstacle on the way between
Ásgarður and Miðgarður, from man to
his innermost essence, ginnungagap, our innermost ourselves.
The
path is natural, and is a pathless path (as it is here and now,
within us).
Man
is the only enemy to himself, and the lovely mind is a silly
distraction from the marvellous track! We seek out there, but
should search in here.
But
we know that we will succeed in our task with the divine sword
(i.e. being determined) and the horse (our vehicle and worldly
will power and means, --something like Þór in us).
"Otherwise Gymir will take us both" (stagnation).
Skaði
(in us) is our will to ascend to the tallest peaks. She, as you
see, gets Skírnir to move. Note that Skaði is a
þurs-maiden in us, but a sheer bride of gods.
The
shortest day of the year is, in the North that is, on the 22nd, or
21st or 20th of December. Yule-tide has been in the North for
thousands and thousands of years. Christian Christmas is a
recent invention on our light of life being born. Going south
of equator we would have Easter in spring and yule at
winter-solstice (20th-23rd June). This means: the longest day
is in December (summer solstice), and the shortest day, yule,
in June. Easter, of course, always spring, but not celebrated
in autumn as is Sif the harvest.
The
Frey-cult, a-satru, paganry, heathenry, is here in discussion. It
is ancient, It suffers from our neglect at times, like the
Sleeping Beauty, but always wakes up again. The joy of yule is
always there. That is why yule is always celebrated.
The
yule tree that usually is any evergreen or one made of wood and
painted green, the gifts, the decoration on the tree, the
apples, the cleaning of the house, the yule-cake, presents,
giving food to ancestors and elves, and so on, are age old
symbols for what yule means to us. When we hang the candy on
the tree we say food, when we hang up the fancy balls we mean
11 golden apples, when we light the candles we help Skírnir, i.e.
the light of life to be born, the sunlight to come,
illumination, enlightenment. (Sun is a goddess within us,
you know, becoming hamingja when imbibed into our body-cells.)
At
yule-tide mother Earth is rocking us, her bairns (children),
towards renewal of growth, the light is defeating darkness, the
light is being born, natalia, life is outsmarting death,
victory of life. We find these seasonal cycles in Greek
mythology as Kore, Hades, Demeter. Yule is the renewal of the
cycle.
Jesus
has been given a heathen role in the yule context, i.e. the
heathen concept: the new born light baby, noël, birth of a
feeble light of life. But yule has nothing to do with belief or
þeocracies. Yule is (1) Nature's feast. Nature is a veil,
-- hides from our worldly sight, the mystical and all pervasive
spirit, Reality, ginnungagap. Just as we do, when we see our body,
but see not that we are ginnungagap. Yule is (2) to reach
ginnungagap, the Reality of life, we probe within to find what
we are looking for.
Symbolic
language and personification are misleading, and idols seem to
have lost the original meaning: Idols are only cues and lead us
inwards. They can never be worthshipped. They are our
indications only. Our pathfinders.
Personifications,
symbols, idols, can mislead the ignorant, the common blind man.
Idols are not worshipped, but “worth-shipped” as cues
into Reality witin us.
Nature's
concepts (that we know and see) are used to explain the
phenomena that we do not see with our worldly eyes. Some men,
of course, are close to the animal stage, i.e. still live a
life-span on coarse stages on the ladder of human evolution,
and they take no interest in the profound meaning. Still they
like yule and celebrate something joyful. At all times there
are more refined souls living on this our beloved mother Earth,
in Miðgarður, world of Loki, and they see -- through the
cues and code language --the real meaning. So there is allegory
all the way through the mystics of myths for those who care to
see. Endless levels of understanding.
Jesus
was not born the Anno Domini, anno zero, invented by the
þeocracy Roman Empire. And Jesus did not have his
birthday on the 25th of December nor on the 6th of January. His
name never was Jesus, and he warned against þeocracies,
and he did not know that christianiy would be invented --
truly against his ideas and opposite to them. Whatever we label
it, yule is joy in us.
Yule-tide
implies the days or weeks before the shortest day of the year,
the winter solstice, and days or weeks after winter solstice
belong to it as well. All of Christmass, darkness mass,
saturnalia, is heathen myths and symbols, like Lucia the 4 lit
points (spokes) of the wheel.
Freyr
is the god of fertility, love, peace, prosperity, progeny, food
for animals and men. Freyr abides within every man, and within
everything in nature. He is a phallic symbol for some, as
progeny and life is a precious thing for every human being, and
the succession of life on earth is man's means to evolve and
reach the highest form or perfection. Síðhöttur
(siddhi: perfection, artha: aim).
Gerður
is a þurs-maiden. Her father is Gymir the þurs. That
implies: Gerður Gymisdóttir is worldly, and her
father is ancient, and perhaps a previous state of evolution.
She symbolises growth, garden, vegetation. She is a prerequisite
for renewal of, and continuation of, life on earth.
Gerður
also means our doings, acts, actions, performances, in material
life. Them we should put right. Right? Connect us to our
nourishing source and essence. That is what union, marriage in
myths, stands for.
This
is why we so desperately need her to play her vital role in the
game of life. If there is no Gerður then there is no
possibility for our further evolution. If there is no
material life, only inertness of the coffie-brake at Helia (Hel),
or if there are only materially-oriented actions in life- on
the visible surface of life, we wither away (goat's urine,
Hrímþurs).
Gullinbursti,
Frey's hog, is a fertility symbol. Frey's sword is his weapon
to fight the all-devastating Surtur at ragnarök, But Freyr
gives his sword away to Skírnir in order to have him well
equipped on his task to safe us (humanity and life on earth).
Freyr misses his sword badly at ragnarök when he has to
fight Surtur.
The
cycle of Surtur and Freyr was when a papal bull ordered the
burning of all sacred fanes, hofs, shrines, and groves and
trees, and people alive at the stake, in Europe. The Frey-cult
has no weapon to fight invading armies, as it is peace and
prosperity only. Our only barátta (battle of life) is
/ should be, to fight for the continuation of humanity on the
evolutionary path on which the human race is (-- should be).
-What
is Skírni's task? -His task is to persuade Gerður to
love Freyr. -What for? -Without our divine part we dry
up. This, too, is the only way to secure food and prosperity
for mankind. Myths contain countless levels of understanding.
The
divine Freyr and the worldly Gerður, one without the other,
can not count as a perfect life. Our divine innermost core --
here Freyr and love of life within us -- combined with Gerður's
love -- the worldly side of our human existence -- is a must
for us if we are to live, survive, prosper, evolve to a higher
state of consciousness.
Skírnir
woos to Gerður for Freyr, i.e. on his beahalf. Freyr as a god
does not go himself to Gerður. His servant and friend, the
warmth and divine light of life, takes on this task to make
Freyr happy, and to give us the promise for continuity of life.
Njörður
is Frey's father. Perhaps Njörður is our origin of life
in the sea. Njörður is the sea-god, and might be past
phases of our evolution, passed life-spans and past
experience. Njörður, Freyr and Freyja are vanir. (Not
the same as æsir).
Skaði,
our will to seek hights in human existence, has the spirit
of mountains. She skies and hunts. Note that she is a
þurs-maiden in us. When her father Þjazi, (past
stage of evolution), was gotten rid of, she, as a proud
northern female character in a heathen myth, gets angry, and
demands from æsir a compensation for the great
father-loss. That is granted to her. And she can choose for
herself a husband from æsir. She is trying to get Baldur
the beautiful sun-god, but is stuck with Njörður, i.e. we
are linked to past evolution and experiences. Njörður
can not stand the mountain tops, Skaði is bored to sickness
by the sea. See this as inner conflict of every man.
Experience-evolution pulling in one direction each.
As
we are in the realm of Northern myths, male and female powers make
a compromise: nine nights (no actual time) by the sea, nine (no
actual time) in the mountains. The eyes of Þjazi (past
stage) were thrown up onto the sky (found in Orion).
Hliðskjálf
is a most elevated place (-shelf; polar star, mons coelius).
From there Heimdallur, the bright one, (Sefeus) sees over all
worlds.
We
are men in Miðgarður, we are Loki in the world of men.
That is the part that the kids and grown-ups play in this
script of Skírnismál. It is not taking place
outside of us at all. For us it is a matter of life or death
whether Gerður promises to love Freyr or refuses to do so.
We do take part in the play, as it is vital for us to take part
in the real play of life. We are not passive
spectators. Skírnir in us has to do something. We have
to act too. Life does not go on without action. Even breathing
and heartbeat are actions, however subtle and natural they may
be. We are always compelled to perform an action in order to
live. Right action it should be of course. Only by following the
wheel (yule) set turning can we find out right and wrong. No
dogmas or creeds can ever tell us.
Righteousness?
We
shall consider - I here include another example of the need for
action in life - what the myth about Týr... (the god of
justice, righteousness, good valid deeds and who is truly
valiant, týr being the sacrifice of individuality into
cosmic consciousness on a deeper level of understanding) ....is
telling us when Fenrisúlfur (Fenrir the wolf, deterioration
and bad deeds) is bound: Drómi and Læðingur
are sloth and inertness and laziness, and these do not hold as
fetters on evil and negativity. Gleipnir is the magical means
of genius, magic and knowledge. It holds the evil until
raganrök, so that creative powers may bloom and prosper. Týr
is the valiant one to get Fenrir to put Gleipnir on. Only by
performing a valkyrja (transcending the world of matter) can
this be acomplished. We should study this myth. It teaches us a
lot. The sacrifice of Týr is in core and essence
nirvana. That is how we gain wisdom.
The
big brain-washing: Jólasveinar, yule boys, are around a
lot during yule. In the Scandinavian languages a jólasveinn
is a julenisse. Nisse could be a nick name for Saint Nicholas -
usually called Santa Claus. We do not know for sure. Nisser
are much older than Santa. Nisser are good creatures at
yule-tide, and the oppressors (Roman Empire) could not control
them. Did they put Santa in the place of nisser, and why?
Our
jólasveinar might be ancestors or gods. The church tried
to create fear during yule-tide, and said jólasveinar (singular
form: jólasveinn) in Iceland to be wicked and evil and
ugly man-creatures coming from the mountains. They were said to
steal food, said to frighten sheep, to frighten kids and
grown-ups, to snatch candles, -- and people should hate them.
At the best they were said to be stupid and they were
ridiculed, and even said not to exist at all. (Santa gets that
comment sometimes too, from "big" kids.)
The
real story might go like this: Ancestors are held in great
esteem in paganry. They symbolise continuity of our human race
and we pay due reverence to the wisdom of gone generations. Food
was put out for elves and food was given to rever ancestors.
Under Christianity this was banned. The church taught that
these yule-creatures were evil (meaning: ancestor-reverence is
banned; but still we gave food-sacrifices to our ancestors -
only under disguise, i.e. gave them food, and said: -Oh! They
stole it!).
Jólasveinar
might just as well be our gods, as Óðinn is Jólnir
at yule-tide.
um
jólasveina
about
jólasveinar and Grýla (Gerður)
Stekkjastaur
(pronounced: Staick-ya-steurr; the accent always on the
first syllable in Icelandic), is a jólasveinn. He is
said to frighten sheep, but the thing is that sheep is
fertilised during this period of the year, so that lambs shall
be borne in spring. Stekkjastaur is a phallic symbol in the way
that he looks into the sheep-sheds to make sure that all is in
order. He is an ancestor who cares. Phallic?
Elves
and leprechauns and the like, might have the same story to
tell: Something sacred to heathen men, put in disguise, as it
was banned by penalty of a horrible death.
álfar/elves
The
mother of the jólasveinar is called Grýla. She is
said to be a terrible female that takes naughty kids and cooks
them and eats them. Christian parents used her to frighten kids
to obey. Grýla is around during yule. The real story
might go: Gerður was held in great esteem during yule. This
annoyed the new, ruling, functionaries (þeocracy)
terribly, and they could not kill Gerður and the joy of
heathen yule, could not burn her at the stake, so they made her
evil, changed her into a threat to get obedience. Just like
they use hells to get obedience to their rules.
We
know that Hel (Helia) is only a soothing coffee-brake between
lives. and the þeocracy only abuses the peaceful
beautiful ice-cold name. The Semitic Hell is a tool for
obedience.
Santa
is a tool for dominance urge too: if you obey you get......, if
you disobey Santa punishes.......
Grýla
sometimes has horns on her head. These might be the horns of the
goat Heiðrún (Capella). Horns are fertility (-of the
earth-) symbols. Gerður might have worn horns at
yule-feasts, as a symbol of fertility. Golden horns mean food,
and also spiritual values to gain. The proverb "gull og
grænir skógar" (gold and green woods) means
abundance of earthly blessings, bounty, and spiritual values.
For
comparison of symbols: Sif, Þór's wife has golden
hair. Her golden hair is the yellow grains on the ripe field,
crop, food, prosperity, means of living. --- And divine gold as
a reward that we gain for our each step on the ladder of
evolution. The gold of Ægir (spiritual treasures,
valuables) in the abyss of the infathomable ocean.
Most
of these above mentioned personifications are said to live in
caves and cliffs. This says: something is hidden in here. (The
cliff Hnitbjörg is within every man.)
Tröllskessur
(troll maidens) and þurses are heathen creatures. They are
said to lure men to their mountain-caves, and the only
salvation from them is to go to church and drink Christ's blood
and eat Christ's flesh. I wonder if tröllskessur are
beloved Mother Earth the great goddess of care, Mother Nature,
or treasured Freyja the great goddess of unbounded love for
humanity (Brísingamen), that were banned under the
church's God-monopoly and þeocracy. Or Gunnlöð
that holds the mead of wisdom in her cliff (in us), Hnitbjörg.
Some
skessur are really good once a man got to know them. Why is
that? One troll-maiden even said: "We, the skessur, would
not forget the birthday of Jesus if he had done as much for us
as you men claim he has done for you." And she gave men a
rectified calender so that they would not forget the correct
date for yule!!! (Folk-lore.) Some humans fell in love with
skessur in the mountains. Those men had to choose from two
alternatives: stay with the her in her mountain-cave and never
to return to the church's community, or leave her and belong to
the church.
The
same goes for elves. Two options: be outlawed from the x-tian
community and live with the elves in their cliffs full of
treasures, or leave the elves and come to church.
The
Semitic invention called Devil sometimes has horns. This implies
that everything pagan and sacred to heathens was put on that
new concept: devil. A lot of brainwashing is still going strong
among us. -Why do we not see it? -Because of the
brainwashing, of course?
The
sacred cats had to be killed. What did they do to that pagan
concept? Jólakötturinn (the yule cat) eats those
who do not get any new garment for yule. A new garment means a
new spring to come. The poorest and least loved got no present
at yule, and people in Iceland were starving under Lutherism as
the church confiscated their farms, one after the other.. -Why
was the cat turned into a man-eating monster at yule-tide? -That
is because it is sacred to heathens.
The
real story about the cat might be: We know that Freyja's means
for transport are her cats. They (the cats of Freyja) are the
vehicle for the power of universal and unconditioned love (i.e.
goddess Freyja), and Freyja's concern is all for the human
race. Her precious Brísingamen (the talisman, or gem, or
necklace of Brísingar) is the human race. And we know that
cats are sacred animals. Even their noble eyes symbolise the
soothing mystery of our moon on the night-sky. The papal
empire realised that the praise of cats had to be killed by
all means (the so-called holy means: real cats were tortured
and killed, said to be incarnated evil spirits), as sacred cats
(symbolically that is) are a part of the heathen Frey-cult.
Cats (vehicle of love) form a part of Freyja, the great goddess
of the North. Freyja is unconditioned love, that knows no double
sided ethics of "I love you if you obey my rules --- if you
do not obey I have a terrible revenge in store for you",
which some religions (warfare in disguise) use on their
credulous members. (Þeocratic claim for despotic
obedience for egoistic purposes).
Freyja,
the heathen female divinity, is the eternal continuum of
infinite dynamism. Knowing this makes a ruling institution
(Christ's bride) completely unnecessary and can altogether be
dismissed. What kind of people wants rules from outside instead
of inner creative dynamism? Some people surely did not, so the
Roman (papal) empire (threat-imposing itself as an intermediary
to divinity) had to fight Freyja (found within every man)
with bloody swords and devastating fire.
Freyja's
cats could not be killed, but they were made wicked
and frightening. So they live as the yule-cat. The bad witch
and her bad cat, and all the bad superstition about the bad
cats could be (is) the invention of the culture-killing bad
God-monopoly institution.
Of
course the goddesses can not be killed. They are aspects of the
divine mother within every being. But some institutions tried
hard to distort and pollute and abuse the mystic code or
symbols.
Frey-cult
can not be used to subdue the free human spirit. It is an
individual and personal affair to be a heathen. And so we are
born. No institutions are needed, but being together is great
fun. So by all means mix and mingle with your fellow men. Good
human societies are a good part of life. But avoid the company
of mean and malicious men. Seek the company of the wise and the
unselfish.
Poor
Santa Claus is used as a threat like Grýla-Gerður.
First he is said to be all love, and the kids look forward to
waking up every morning in December to receive his token of
love, some little gift in the shoe in the windowsill. But what
happens? Disgusting parents put a raw potato in the shoe in the
windowsill, and claim the symbol of love (Santa,
jólasveinn, julenisse) to be revenging the kid for some
meant disobedience towards some invented rules, that obviously
have not been discussed with the kid, not agreed on by the kid,
whose purpose has not been understood by the kid. An
intelligent parent would talk to the kid about the necessity and
purpose of a good action or behaviour. An intelligent parent
would explain the purpose of life, the necessity of a right
action. A wise parent would never use the double sided ethics
of claiming love, penalty, obedience, threat, to be one and the
same thing or feelings. By some newer religions the "normal"
thing is hell or heaven. This has no place in edda. Every human
being is on his path towards perfection. And there exists (in
Hávamál) a shortcut to Valhöll in one of our
life-spans. Great wisdom about existence these our ancestors
possessed, man.
A
good and wise parent teaches kids to perform the valkyrja, Týr
on meiður, TM®, in order to gain the purest wisdom of
ginnungagap. (Hávamál)
Paganry,
heathenry, is many, many thousands of years old. Who knows
how ancient. And it is the most beautiful wisdom of life, and
understanding of purpose of life.
Heathenry
is absolutely unfit for use as a device for dominance-urge.
Heathenry
is the peaceful Frey-cult, a-satru, paganry, which conways
the know-how on how the free human spirit, Óðinn (I)
transcends this material world to gain the great wisdom, manvit
mikið. It is all love. No threat. All responsibility of
each man. All about the right action of an individual, - not
for egoistic goals, but for each individual, for his
individual evolution, creation as our means for experiments and
search for Truth, evolution of us all and the universe, that is
the purpose.
We
should never use the double-sided ethics where you can talk about
your love and use threats and violence at the same time. An
individual should be whole. He can not attack in the name of
peace, not kill in name of love, not beat in name of care and
love. Missionary, threat, crusade, and violence is alien to
paganry. Action is meant for betterment, not used to gain other
men's possessions or to deprive another man of his free will.
Freedom involves the respect for other men's freedom.
Merry
yule-tide, prosperous new year. The year is beginning at
yule-tide. In Iceland we wish "happy yule, year, and
peace", Við óskum gleðilegra jóla, árs
(a prosperous year) og friðar. And year means the whole
year, not just the first few days of January, but the year from
winter solstice and on and on. Peace is the only way to
live prosperity. Crops bloom when there is peace among men. And
a valkyrja, TM, should be performed by all men and bairns.
Gleði
(gledi) is gladness, and that also means the vastness, greatest
width as has the sky. What vastness? The heath, the moor, the
mountains? No only: it is the unbounded ginnungagap within
everything and everyone, the field of all possibilities. (The
scientific term: The Unified Field.) The only way to find real
peace, permanent peace. The abode of Óðinn
(consciousness) is Glaðheimar.
The
goddess abides in us. Her power lies in her greatness. A divine
mother.
Gerður
of Skrínismál, of course, belongs to the category of
proud and powerful Norse females, just like every other
northern being that is truly pagan. This way of behaving
penetrates the whole lot of Icelanders, apart from the true
obedient Christians (dominus-obedience system, the good sheep of
the good shepherd). About one half of us Icelanders are said to
have their own private opinions (each individual for himself)
and their individual way of thinking, when it comes to the
spiritual part of life. It has most likely always been so in the
North. Perhaps this is the reason for edda to be saved and
preserved in Iceland. Scholars claim South-Europeans to have
been more obedient to the dogmas. Individuality was killed by
the Empire.
This
brilliant individuality is the reason for kings having a hard time
in Iceland to get sovereignty. Kings tried to chop their way
with swords, but never had but a contemporary success. But a
threat-imposed encroachment or breach exists under another
name: The papal functionaries used the sword, threatened with
hell, confiscated possessions, stole yule (and turned it into
Christmas), stole Easter (the spring goddess; Easter was turned
into a horror story about Jews killing Jesus). The Icelandic
constitution still allows a state in the state. The
very constitution of that so-called individuality-oriented
nation, contains one paragraph on that people can have views,
meanings, opinions, sex, color of skin, as they choose, still
being equals, and another paragraph, contradicting it, opposed
to it, that says that all and every one shall showel a huge
budget of money (taxes) into a state-run sect of
restricted creeds, support it and hold it in esteem at all cost
-- (a huge cost!!!).
Heathen
hofs, fanes, shrines, vé, trees, groves, and men and women
and cats were burned, but pagans only got on with spirituality
"a la my personal, own, individual way". "Oh!
wicked jólasveinar!! They stole some food from me!!"
Always
have there been men around who find the great power within,
their might and main, Þór, and the free human
spirit, Óðinn.
Life
is the expansion of happiness, anyway.

This
script of Skírnismál:
This
script is meant for kids of every age to take part in the
beautiful game of life. Each individual acts according to his
joy, in order to get the most beautiful life. And I beg you to
consider sincerely one thing: Do not thrust kids to take part.
Do not trick them or lure them into anything or say: -Look, all
the other kids are taking part, so you should. Kids should be
taught to act on their own initiative. A good teacher inspires
and explains the real meaning, but does not thrust, not push,
does not cunningly lure a little soul to do as the teachers
wants.
Please
do not say: -look, all the others are....... therefore (so)
you should....
And
parents should be trustworthy friends. They explain, but do not
demand obedience. Why do kids love their parents and love to
help them and run errands for them? Not because of fear, not
because of threat, not for a gain of favour. No. Just because
they love to love and help. Cut out the stick and the carrot.
Give love, affection, understanding and explanation. An actions
that comes from within is the only true one. If your child
performs straight from his of her heart, then the deed is
real. Give love and trust and it will reflect on the
surroundings. By Urður Verðandi and Skuld you shall
always get it back sooner of later, in this life-span (ævi)
or next ones.
Allow
your kids to learn the TM® technique, and they shall know what
is right action. Such kids score as super-kids in schools,
universities, in life itself.
In
order to be a man in Miðgarður every individual should be
all-responsible for his actions. Therefore he, as an
individual, acts on his conditions. No brain-washing, not
threats, no "candy for a good doggie" or heaven
after death. No devil, only the cycles of life, that are the
waves on which evolution surfs (Þund). And above all:
each individual shall find his and her unique role in it.
Winter
solstice: Skírnismál start with Freyr in the
darkness of the North during winter. He sees Gerður far
away. He falls in love, but is unhappy because his beloved is
far away. She does not know him. Does not care. Skaði,
Frey's stepmother, and Njörður, his father, are worried
because of his depression. They wake up Skírnir, Frey's
servant and friend since long, so that he may find out the
cause of Frey's grief or discontent. At last Skírnir
gets Freyr to speak: The reason for his grief is the love for
Gerður that is not here with him.
Skírnir
rides over snowy mountains on Frey's pony, having Frey's sword
that fights on its own if a wise one holds it. He also takes
along eleven golden apples as a gift from Freyr to Gerður.
He takes Draupnir (pronounced: Dreupn-irr (accent always on the
first syllable in Icelandic)), the golden ring that Óðinn
burned on the cremation fire of his beloved son Baldur (-- but
this counts as a cycle too). Draupnir breeds ("drops",
or from it "drip") another eight golden rings every
now and then (aeons, ages, circles and cycles in evolution). And
Skírnir takes along with him the young tree gambanteinn,
the magic wand, --just in case
The
journey is a challenging undertaking, and no-one can get into
Gerður's abode, they say. That we claim to be true. But
Skírnir knows that a long life is meant for him, and he
shows no wavering of the mind, no hesitation whatsoever. Oh,
he, the ray from divinity, has the inevitable power of Nature
behind him, of course. And so do we if we want to.
Skírnir
speaks to the horse. Note that we are listening to a northern
myth and a horse is not a dead vehicle but a living creature, a
living power, our very nervous system, in the state of restful
alertness. Skírnir says to the horse: -Either Gymir
takes us both or we both survive. This is to ensure the
steadfast co-operation of man and horse: Skírnir and his
means to pass the great flame vafurlogi, -- for the best for
mankind and all living creatures in nature, for whom man is
responsible.
Note:
In the great book Óðsmál, ISBN 9979 60 165 5,
Sleipnir, Óðin's horse, is explained as the nervous
system, means to get from Miðgarður to Ásgarður to
gain manvit mikið, the great profound knowledge. Animals are
used as symbols in heathen myths. Cats, f.eks, are symbolic for
getting into the sphere of pure love, unconditioned love, the
spiritual part of oneself -- inwards.
But
difficulties first begin when Skírnir meets Gerður!!!
She is not to be demanded to do anything that she herself has
not the intention to do. We are in the middle of a pagan myth,
you know. She, a female power on a þurs-stage, plainly,
says: -No. I do not want Freyr! Flatly, just so, refuses.
The
female power, as divine goddesses or as humans, always is
revered. The female will is held as the most prominent of
worldly powers.
Skírnir
brings presents. Gerður does not accept them. Her father
(Gymir) is rich in material goods (in Gymisgarðar), and
she has everything that anyone (a person of a crude worldly
status) can wish for.
Skírnir
threatens with the sword that has carved magic runes on it.
But Gerður is not afraid. She is almost arrogant, and for
sure can not be threatened by a sword. She just suggests,
perhaps haughtily or nonchalantly, that maybe Skírnir
would like to play a fighting game with her father Gymir.
Skírnir
then uses gambanteinn, the magic wand, to persuade her to
love Freyr. He tells her what will happen to a person that
lives on the worldly level of life only, when the divine is not
lived, when the divine part of life is rejected as if it were
of no importance, we gradually perish, i.e. get off-track on
our path of evolution. That counts as sin, getting off the path
of evolution, and leads to suffering only.
We
should know that the divine is our innermost core. We are divine
beings that dwell on earth for our purpose: to gain perfection.
That is being Síðhöttur. Perfection is the goal
of the universe. Life is an interesting game to play to achieve
that goal.
This
is meant for us men in Miðgarður to understand, as well as
for Gerður. Without getting nourished from our divine part,
from ginnungagap, we shall dry out and wither away.
Skírnismál
encourages us to perform actions in life. Valkyrja is the best and
most powerful action of all. The teaching of Hávamál:
Týr á vingameiði, Óðinn given to
Óðinn, I given to myself, We can easily learn TM®.
This is in essence what edda is telling us all about. This is
how we can know what is right action. Right action is
powerful and all joy. Expansion of happiness is the purpose of
life.
