A coffee break

Looking ahead

These pictures accompany the travellogue of the trip Elín Árnadóttir and Arnþór Helgason took in late june 1996 from Reykjavík east to Stöðvarfjörður, about 670 km. The travellogue is only available in icelandic. They are in their fourties, use a TREK T-100 tandem and on this trip they used for the first time a Bob trailer. As the route was Route 1 there were no hard going jeep tracks. Arnþór is blind so he sits in the back and Elín does the steering and took all the photos exept the first which was taken by a friend.

They did not camp but stayed "in luxury" at hotels and with friends along the way. The trip went well exept for the very common mistake of packing too much. When they had all their gear in the trailer they hardly noticed it but with the four extra panniers on the tandem fully loaded the weight was a bit too much. They recommend that you don´t have a too stringent plan as on a windy day it may be very difficult to finish those 80km you had planned.
