Dr.Irina Akimushkina flutti fyrirlestur í
stofu 101 í Odda 13 maí 2003.
Dr. Irina Akimushkina, sem er gestaprófessor við
George Washington University, flutti fyrirlestur um sögu
rússneskra kvenna í fortíð og nútíð.
Að fyrirlestrinum loknum var gefinn kostur á fyrirspurnum
og umræðum.
Dr. Akimushkina hefur doktorspróf í alþjóðatengslum
frá The Moscow Institute of International Relations.
Hún hefur fengist við kennslu og rannsóknir
víða um lönd og er sérfæðingur
í sögu, menningu og stjórnmálum
Suður-Ameríku, Rússlands og fyrrum Sovétlýðvelda.
Dr. Akimushkina hefur lagt stund á kvenna- og kynjarannsóknir
og hún stofnaði þverfaglega rannsóknastofu
kynjafræðum og fjölskyldurannsóknum
við Russians People´s Friendship University árið
1991, fyrstu stofnun sinnar tegundar í Rússlandi.
Fyrirlestur dr. Akimushkinu fór fram
á ensku og var öllum opinn.

politics of Latin America, Russia and republics of ex-USSR,
Eastern and West European countries.
Over 15 years of teaching experience for American, Latin American,
Asian, African, and Russian students in English, Spanish and
Russian in the USA, Russia, United Kingdom, Mexico, Germany,
Australia and other countries.
Lecturing in more than 20 countries, including Argentina,
Uruguay, Ecuador, Venezuela, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Singapore,

1991, I established the Interdisciplinary
Gender and Family Studies Center at RPFU, the first teaching
and research center of this kind in Russia. Coordinated and
conducted research projects: sociological survey on Russian
women in "perestroyka", cross cultural study on
Russian and Latin American women, research on student families.
Presented the results of these surveys at international seminars
and conferences, including the UN conference on family in
Malta 1993.
1994-1995, Fulbright Scholar, Women's Studies

on methodological issues of writing Russian women's history.
Keynote speaker with this topic at the International Congress
of Historical Sciences, Montreal, Canada, 1995.

1998-1999, Visiting Professor, Latin American
Studies Department, Georgetown University. Research on women's
status in Cuba, lectured on gender, foreign and domestic policy
of Russia and Latin American countries.
Since 2000, Visiting Professor, Institute of European, Russian
and Eurasian Studies, George Washington University. Researched
and lectured on women's rights in Eastern Europe, Russia,
former Soviet republics, countries of Central and Latin America.
Taught courses for senior citizens (OASIS programs) on foreign
and domestic policies of Russia, Eastern Europe, China, Central
